GLOBAL STUDIES MAGNET PROGRAM
Our Global Studies Academy was established in 1999. It allows students to see how their actions impact the world around them. It is an academically rigorous program that focuses on environmental stewardship.
By using an interdisciplinary approach, students learn about issues affecting our environment, and they use critical thinking skills to create solutions for more effective and efficient ways to “go green”. With this unique hands-on approach to learning, students also participate in many field trips to enhance their “Global” experience. Some of these field trips include participating in Deering Estate’s NESTT Program, animal encounters, and in eighth-grade, a three-day field trip to Boston, Massachusetts.
Some of the advantages to being a part of this academy are that students experience a school within a school atmosphere, which allows for an easy transition into middle school. Teachers work together to develop lessons that will foster students intellectual, emotional, and social growth.
Arvida Middle School is an "A" school, and we strives for educational excellence. Students who are able to maintain excellent grades in core courses can acquire up to four high school credits (Algebra, Geometry, Physical Science, Biology, and/or Foreign Language) while at Arvida Middle School.
Electives abound at Arvida, and students can choose from fine art electives such as drama, dance, orchestra, and art to many other electives including physical education, Spanish, French, piano, computers, television production, chorus, creative writing, yearbook, and many more.
Aside from electives, there are many extra curricular activities for students to choose from at our school. The clubs we offer include Robotics, Thespians, Green Team, National Junior Honor Society, Math Counts, Multicultural Awareness Club (MAC), Student Council, and many more. We also have a number of sports for both boys and girls to try out for after school including cross-country, track and field, soccer, softball, tennis, swimming, golf, bowling, volleyball, and basketball.
